Getting started

To create a new campaign in Breaker, visit your Overview page or your Campaigns page.

  1. Click the "New Campaign" or "Create Campaign" button.
  2. Set a Campaign Title — this is the internal name for that email.
  3. Input a Subject Line and Preview Text for the email — this is what recipients will see as the email subject line and preview text.

Then click Next to continue, where you'll be able to add your email content to that campaign.

Managing blocks

Hover over any block in your campaign to see the options to manage that block.

To the left of each block are five options:

From left to right, the options are:

  1. Select Block: The checkbox can be used to select multiple blocks, for moving or deleting blocks simultaneously.
  2. Duplicate Block: The rectangle + button duplicates the block.
  3. Create New Block: The circle + button creates a new block.
  4. Transform Block: The square recycle button allows you to change the current block type to a different block type (for example, from a paragraph to a blockquote).
  5. Drag Block: The six dots allow you to click and drag a block to another part of the content.

On the right side there is only a delete button. Clicking this red trash can icon will remove that block from your campaign.

Block types

Use slash / commands to set the Block Type. Breaker supports a variety of block types.

Paragraphs

Paragraph blocks are for basic text.

In order to modify text in a paragraph, highlight the text you would like to modify and use the tool bar.

The paragraph modification toolbar allows for the following options:

  • Bold
  • Italic
  • Underline
  • Change text alignment (left, center, right, or justified)
  • Change text color
  • Link text to a URL
  • Indent text

This text modification toolbar is available in other block types as well.

In order to modify text, simply highlight the text and select the button that correlates to the modification that you would like to make. For example, clicking on the link (chain) icon to link text inline.

Bulleted Lists

Bulleted lists are an unordered list of items.

Numbered Lists

Numbered lists are an ordered list of items in numerical order.

Images

In order to add an image to your email, select the image block type with a slash / command.

You can add an image to an email 3 different ways:

  1. By pasting in a link to the image in the URL bar
  2. By clicking the "Click here" link to upload an image
  3. By dragging an image from your filesystem to the image block

After you've added your image, you can use the image settings toolbar to adjust the image.

  • Change the image width: the percentage shown by the size bar will be the percentage width of the image in the final email
  • Add image padding
  • Align the image (left, center, or right)
  • Link the image to a URL

Buttons

When you add a button to your campaign, you can adjust the button text by selecting the button and using the toolbox.

Using the toolbox, you can

  • Edit the button text
  • Add your button URL
  • Change the button color with the color wheel
  • Adjust button alignment
  • Add text decoration to the button, such as making the text bold

Embed a webpage

Similar to how external links preview on social media platforms with a title and image, in Breaker you can embed URL cards that pull the title and image associated with a webpage.

After you enter a URL and click "Add Embed" you should see a preview like this:

Blockquote

Blockquotes allow you to nest text (typically quotes from others) into a differentiated block.

Beyond the container appearance, the blockquote block operates just like a paragraph block.

Headings

Headings 1 through 4 are available to add titles and sections to content. Headings have a larger text size than paragraphs and other text in your email.

Columns

2 and 3 column blocks are available. Content within columns operates as paragraph blocks do with the ability to input text and style that text.

Section Break

The Section Break block or "dividers" add a simple gray line to visually divide 2 sections of your content, similar to the one right below on this webpage.

Saving drafts

In order to save your campaign as a draft, click the "Save Draft" button anytime while creating or editing your campaign.

Send a test email

In order to send a test email to yourself or members of your team to review content and formatting, click the Test Email button at the bottom of the content editor.

Using the popup modal, enter the test email recipients' email addresses, using the Add Email button to include additional recipients. Then press Send.

Note: In order to ensure instant delivery, test emails are sent from a separate mail stream than when campaigns are sent to your list. If you find a test email in the promotions or spam folder, it's not representative of the performance you will see when you send the campaign to your list.

Sending your campaign

When you're ready to send your campaign, click the Next button at the bottom of your drafted email content.

On the final screen you set your audience and your desired send time.

Audience

Under Audience you have 2 options:

  1. All contacts. This will send the email to all contacts currently subscribed to your email list.
  2. Custom contacts. Selecting this option will allow you to include or exclude specific segments with the dropdowns provided.
    1. Segments can be combined here for either inclusion or exclusion.
    2. If you only select a segment to exclude, the email will be sent to your entire list except for contacts in the excluded segment.

Send time

Under "Schedule publishing" you can decide whether you want to send the email now or schedule it for later.

If you select "Schedule for later" you can select the date, time, and timezone for the email to be sent.

Once you've chosen your audience and send time, click Publish.
